A network cloud you can take anywhere, backed by open source.

关于我们

Datum is building the world’s first open network cloud — a neutral place where Alt Clouds, tech incumbents, and digital leaders can programmatically interact with their unique ecosystem. Our mission is to help 1k new clouds thrive in the AI era by unlocking "internet superpowers" for every builder. Our vision is to be the most trusted way for digital ecosystems to interact, with millions of intelligent connections to prove it. Datum has a strong belief in transparency and building trust with builders. Core components are released under the AGPLv3 license, giving users full visibility and audit capability, the ability to adapt and self-host if needed, and long-term confidence without vendor lock-in.

Founder (Venture5 Media & V5 Summit, GoingVC) + Investor (Angel, LP, Syndicate Lead)

It's a big miss that most folks in the industry are sleeping on this critical aspect of AI adoption. It's not *just* about NVIDIA chips, LLMs, and massive data centers... ... it's also about the networks(!) and how they need to fundamentally change in the age of AI to keep them performant and secure. That's why I was thrilled to interview Datum CEO Zachary Smith who recently announced their investment from top infra and privacy focused VCs including CRV Amplify Sunil Dhaliwal Reid Christian Zoe Weinberg Cervin Ventures. Having worked at DigitalOcean Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other companies in the space in past lives, it's always fun for me to talk with founders building in this space!

    Building a Big Network!

Big congrats to the Datum crew on launch. I was glad to help with some early ideas and the re-launch of AS33438 – DATUM, and to collaborate with other like-minded infra builders like Zachary Smith, Jacob Smith, and Alex Benik along the way. The Datum crew sponsor Akademisk Boldklub A/S which adds a twist of fun when they are otherwise building hardcore infrastructure. Hearing footballers talk about BGP routing is about as natural as me getting tips on how to make the perfect header. Somewhere out there Ted Lasso is wondering why AFC Richmond never got its own ASN...if he still wants one he just needs to call Datum. And that's a wrap on the last Alt Cloud meetup of the year! Huge thanks to our speakers Shayne Stubbs, Jake Moshenko and Drew Raines for taking the time to share your demos and talks with the group. Our biggest takeaway: there's magic in this Alt Cloud Community. In a room full of smart people, who are driven to innovate and do big things, together, we can't miss. Want to get involved? Community, Cocktails, and $13.6M: The Era of Alt Cloud is Here. Last night at 120 Broadway, the vibe was explicitly "low to zero bullshit." I was lucky to join the final Alt Cloud meetup of the year, hosted by the Datum team. Amidst the "speakeasy" atmosphere and non-AI craft cocktails, I was struck by a specific ritual Zach Smith and Jacob Smith introduced: Mutual Aid. Attendees filled out notecards not with pitches, but with requests for help, which the group then solved together. That spirit of cooperation is exactly why I’m so bullish on what Zach and Jacob are building, and why I am thrilled to celebrate their announcement yesterday: 🚀 Datum has raised $13.6M to unlock "internet superpowers" for every builder. The event last night proved why this is necessary. We heard from builders pushing the boundaries of infrastructure: Shayne Stubbs (Attimis) on the necessity of local access to data anywhere. Jake Moshenko (AuthZed) gave a fascinating talk on the "deadly trifecta" of agent authorization—reminding us that AI agents will stress-test our organizations in ways human users never did. The amazing Drew Raines (Datum) demoed what it looks like to deploy global backbones without leaving your IDE. The Mountain Branch Consulting View: The next 1,000 clouds won’t look like the last 10. We are moving away from generalist behemoths toward specialized infrastructure—GPU clouds, AI clouds, Data clouds. But innovation at the lowest layers (DNS, routing, peering) has historically required crash carts and cage nuts. Datum changes that game. They are handing the keys to the internet’s engine room to developers, minus the friction. Huge congratulations to my friends Zachary Smith and Jacob Smith, and the partners at Amplify, CRV, Encoded, ex/ante, Step Function, and Vine. The Datum team is now on the pitch! #AltCloud #Infrastructure #VentureCapital #Datum #TechNews
